Robben dismisses United link

Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben has dismissed rumours linking him with a possible move to the Premier League with Manchester United, with the Dutchman insisting he is settled and happy in Germany.

The appointment of Louis van Gaal as the United's new manager had led Betfair punters to believe Robben could be set to join his compatriot at Old Trafford next season, but the former Chelsea winger has made it clear he isn't looking to leave Bayern.

The 30-year-old signed a contract extension in Munich that will keep the forward at Bayern until 2017, and although Robben has admitted he enjoys playing under manager Van Gaal, a move to Old Trafford isn't something on the Holland international's agenda.

"Manchester United? That's not an option. I am staying at Bayern Munich. Period. And I cannot imagine that Bayern would want to sell me. I have only just renewed my contract and we are happy with each other. It would have been a different story had I been unhappy.”

"I would have been open to a move then, because I had a great time under Van Gaal at Bayern. He has been very important for my career. However, fact is that I am very happy at my current club."

While it doesn't looks as though those Betfair fans backing Robben with a move to Old Trafford will be proven right, the new United manager looks set to be extremely active in this summer's transfer market. Aside from the goalkeeper, every area in this United squad will need strengthening if the club are going to be challengers next year, and van Gaal faces an extremely busy summer before the start of the new Premier League season.

The current Holland head coach is preparing to lead his country to this summer's World Cup, where may well prove to be an excellent chance for the new United manager to scout some potential signings ahead of him taking up his new job.
