CHELSEA SNAP UP MARIN

Chelsea have already started their rebuilding process ahead of next season after confirming the signing of Werder Bremen midfielder Marko Marin on a five-year contract.

The 23-year-old is expected to join the London club on a five-year deal after the two clubs agreed a transfer fee worth around £ 7 million. It seems to be an astute piece of business from the English club after Marko Marin has been touted to be the next big thing from Germany.

However, he has had an injury laden year this season, which has prevented his progress. It is very much expected that Marko Marin will replace either Florent Malouda or Salomon Kalou at Chelsea next season.

Salomon Kalou is out of contract at the end of the season, while Florent Malouda has only one year left on his current deal. Chelsea have been looking to rejuvenate their old squad for quite some time now. It is very much thought that the likes of Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou will depart the club at the end of this season. Nicolas Anelka and Alex have already been sold in the January transfer window. This would mean that only the likes of Lampard and John Terry will be the senior players at the club next season.

"I had a really good time with Werder, together with many great guys here, and I have lots of nice memories, but I am looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Premier League with such an established club," Marko Marin said after confirming his move to Chelsea. The midfielder is quite versatile and is capable of playing a centrally or in the wings. The 23-year-old was part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup along with Germany, but missed the Euro 2008 due to injury.
